Time Worn Style

Today is only 2 degrees Celsius

That's 35.6 degree Fahrenheit

Its the middle of winter...

There could be snow...

I would rather use our Verandah for doing this...

  I do love our Verandah in Summer...

I love opening those big French doors...

But for now we will enjoy the open fire and hot chocolates...

See it isnt all bad

Had a lovely week....

Had a wonderful day out today with some friends in Melbourne visiting what Melbourne does best ~ the shops!!

The standout store for me was CAPPOCCHI on High Street Armadale..

Photos are from my phone but I have to say this store had the best Cloches and antique Domes I have seen for some time, enjoy...

These bottles remind me of my friend Tamarahs home, and they look fantastic dont you think?

Mind you I was happy to pay only $15 for mine at the op shop (below), a bit of a saving after looking at the price tags on these Armadale beauties...

You see you dont really need to pay the high end shop prices, just keep looking at markets, garage sales, op shops etc, there are always similar items to be found..

Well I'm going to be selling some of my treasures at that show..

so do mark it in your diary if you are in town that week..

I just love love love the artwork you can find on old covers...

There is just something so terribly elegant and eye catching about them...

My Mum had a copy of it when I was but a pup...

so I was rightly chuffed to find this special one at the op shop WITH  a working record inside...

And look at the graphics on the covers of this lovely lot...

Old sheet music from a time when nearly everyone could play a piano (or a ukulele!)

So beautiful and detailed..

and just so well, FRAMEABLE

This (above) has to be my favourite...

But there is something about this smoking Spanish lady that I love..

The text and the roses together on this one are sublime...

and you just couldn't get anymore Art Deco than this one..

How about one for the nursery..

Don't you just want to whack them all in a frame so everyone can enjoy them??

GiGi however, well she's staying a while, I just want to sing a long a bit longer whilst staring at the cover..

Fill the walls....

One thing about "Greystanes" although she was built big over the years, there actually aren't a lot of walls..

Mostly big tall sash windows..

Hey I'm not complaining, I love all that light..

But I also love Roses paintings..

and Roses prints...

 

So this weekend I put them all together, my collection of many many, many years of early market mornings, garage sales, swaps with friends, antique marts (you get the idea)..

All those old pictures that have been leaning against the wall since we painted the front room..

Gathered them together from all over the house..

Because I wanted to group the right ones together..

I thought I might do a collection of oils on cedar board (oh i do love those)...

Perhaps their "roseiness" is enough to gell them together as a theme..

But I still wanted to keep it fairly simple too..

So I got as far as this...

and this...

But I'm still wondering if this one should go here...

Hmmmm and I should tidy that front verandah too..

Its going to be a slow process

I mean really, who wants to hammer a picture hook in the wrong spot on freshy painted walls?

Obviously not me!!

Soda Syphons ~ a few more...

Followers of this Blog may well have noted an interest I have these days in more "sculptural" pieces, items that look pretty darn good all grouped together..

This current favourite I have mentioned before but I was able to add another to my collection today after a quick duck into an op shop in between picking up more heart tablets for our elderly spaniel  (so much cheaper to treat a humans ailments than a pooch that is for sure)

....mind you she would have no spring in her step whatsoever without this rather expensive canine habit so i am happy to oblige in being a doggy drug dealer and dispenser of doggy heart boosters so her sweet little soul will stay with our family a while longer...

So after spending mega bucks at the vets (again) I was more than happy to scoop up this latest little Soda Syphon for all of $5 (aaah yes that took away the wallet pain for sure..)

Its the blue rimmed top that got me..

and the fact that it is just so MELBOURNE I love...

Must have been a few soda factories in FITZROY all those years ago, I have two now..

A couple from France...

And a blue one from Czechoslovakia

But I think I love our home grown Fitzroy ones the best, they just well ~ belong ~

And it is an EASY collection to start if you wanted to

With the autumn sun shining through them, well what can I say...

On a Queens Birthday weekend...

You get a few things done because...

Not only is my clever husband home

But also my willing to learn middle cherub...

So that finally my lovely old wrought iron sign, found on the side of the road, amongst the hard rubbish..

discarded by a beautiful old Mountain home's owner (were they mad I ask?)...

Has found a new display spot INSIDE our home...

I love old Wrought iron house names but I think this is my favourite of all of the ones I have (although the one in our bathroom is a favourite too)..

and we found the perfect spot ...

For a beautiful VISTA....

Also found some vintage castors in a garage sale miiiiles away from home (at my childhood home away from home ~ Point Lonsdale) perfect to finish off my old BrownBuilt Pigeon Hole trolley...

Now there is somewhere near the back door for all the shoes, hats etc that the kids all drop on the floor as they arrive home from school..

I put some old SINGER SEWING MACHINE drawers inside a few of the compartments for smaller items such as keys etc..

I wonder where this trolley came from that required it to have a CROWN imprinted on it just so...

Also some of my silver plate trays, I'm going to track down a few more to fill more of the pigeon holes as they are perfect for other small items..

Well ok, I didnt actually WIN these trophies for anything but did feel like a winner when I found them at a market (does that count, I'm sure it does)...

So I'm feeling a little more organised now with the cherubs mess at the back door even down to the hat stand for youngest's school hat, the test now is of course to see if they actually use it.. Wish me luck..

Eye Candy from Time Worn Style (a few years ago)...

Was having a nice little clean out of my photo files and thought I would share some older pictures with you...

I dont even have most of these items anymore, they have moved on through my Time Worn style store..

Interesting to see how my tastes have developed over time too (although I did SO love that dinner set, wish I could remember the name of the pattern)..

Its still just as untidy out on the verandah today as when this (below) was taken!

Oh ok I'll fess up, its actually worse..

And that blue chair is still one of my favourites, although much of that around it has since been sold..

And I have kept these French portraits for a very long time because I love them so much (even if they didnt go with my pink stuff)..

But eeek I do wish I had kept these....

 

 
And yikes I did get rather carried away with all that linen (what was I thinking!)

Still have that Lloyd loom blanket box cause I love it but not the bed..

And  I dont think I could part with my pink Sanderson chair (cripes most of that other stuff is gone though)..

And that little girl and her dog picture will always be one of my favourites..

And of course I will always love a chandelier (and my wardrobe)..

Yes it certainly has been an interesting look back over my home and shop items 2 to 3 years ago..

I'm doing a big sweep through of the house over the long weekend so will show some more up to date photos soon!

Queens Birthday Long Weekend here in Aussie land ~ have a good one everybody!

A touch of crystals...

Have just added a very sweet pair of vintage light catchers to my ebay store..

I really love chandeliers, I dont think I will ever tire of them...

But I think this place is getting a bit too too blingy and over done...

Less is more remember.. .so here they are..

oh and how cute are those clocks, found them in a big tub of dirty old alarm clocks for a song at the back of a shop, they cleaned up a treat too even if it took several goes to get my own hands clean after sifting through them all and.... I dont reeealy care if they dont work either cause they are too cute!

Finally...

I can tick another "most wanted" off my list...

Here she is..

With her worn finish and wire repaired stand...

Old and not perfect, which to me is well ~ perfect!

Standing her next to my slightly more recent mannequin I thought it interesting how ideal body shape keeps changing over time...

This Antique mannequin dating from around 1900 on the right is relatively flat chested with a very small waist (wasp waist my mum used to call it)...

Where as "Anastasia" as my middle cherub named her is more buxom and well rounded...

She dates from around the 1940's I estimate...

I guess todays mannequin would be very tall and stick thin...

Am trying to guess which mannequin would suit me best, yup buxom it is ;0)

 and squeeeel, we finally got our new ducted heating system installed today so now I am all nice and toasty and can use ALL the rooms in Greystanes instead of living in an ice box. I might be able to get a few more projects done that I can share with you finally!

Have been enjoying playing with some tablescapes lately now that the weather has cooled right down.

Can't paint furniture as the temperature has to be in a certain range for it to flow and "take" properly....

So its stacking up a bit waiting, waiting on the back verandah..

Would it be too much to ask for a heated shed/work area hmmmm?....

But in the meantime I get to play inside (in between washing and folding laundry, vacuuming floors, picking up sick child from school ~ you get the picture)

Found these gorgeous old stencils at my friend Daphnes Shop ~ Tangerine Vintage Store ~ if you are in the area you must pop in, I always find something  I have to have!

Still deciding how to display them all, I have a few ideas rolling around...

And i always grab these Antique Chemists bottles if I see them..
