Time Worn Style

From shabby chic to neutrals...

One of the things that I love about my business

is I get to play stylist

with new things every week.

 

Some I like so much in their new spot I decide to hold onto for a while..

others I put in my ebay store quick smart..

I found a wonderful lot of treasures on the weekend, 

some that I would have shoved in my cupboard with much gusto in the days where I loved all things pink and rosey..

 

 

So when I was taking some photos of all these new found delights..

It got me to thinking how much my decor has changed over the years

Don't get me wrong 

I still do love pink and rosey china, linen, furniture..

but not on the grand scale that was..

only here and there

Which in all honesty 

for me

makes it more of feature

that jumps out and says "look at me"

 

To be honest

I think I am going through a bit of a backlash against my earlier frilly shabby chic phase

And again

having said that

I do love a ruffle and frill here and there

just 

not 

as

much..

Because some of our rooms are starting to head in this direction now..

I found this huge old antique basket

which calls to me more

than some pink and roses

for the moment..

and when I stood back and looked at this room..

it struck me just how pared back it is

and calming in a way..

a clashing of horns 

against my earlier hoarding days

I'm enjoying layers and textures 

overlapping and changing..

silver

linens

neutrals...

industrial accents

but don't think for a minute

that all of our house is going down this road..

after all

I still do have a cupboard full of this..

The Australian Verandah...

One of the main things I loved about this old house when I first saw it was its long and deep Australian Verandahs..

We have them on both sides of the house

You can fit a good size table and chair set on them

and in summer they are the coolest place to be sitting back with 

a G & T and enjoying the serenity..

but of course being such an old house

this more "original" section is in dire need of a makeover

the uprights are sagging

the decking rises and falls with the weather..

more to do with some earlier poor repairs rather than anything else..

 

 

and the bases of the uprights are rotted out..

the railings need to be added back in..

and the stairs replaced..

 

Theres another little room underneath..

the boards need replacing..

 

 

I think this is going to be our next renovation project

over Summer..

its a big one

we may just sit on it for another year

enjoying the serenity..

and hoping it doesnt collapse from under us

and available for purchase now in my ebay Australia store..

The best laid plans...

Often go astray 

and of course when you are steaming along getting lots done

in the showroom and around the house

well those Spring lurgies appear

and before you know it you are bedridden with the flu

and I don't have time for it

because I've found some beautiful old things during the early part of the week..

and I have an urge to re-arrange some furniture..

 

and deciding which treasures I should keep or sell..

 

 

but really I should just grab a stack of my favourite magazines

My Vintage shop in the Mountains from Studio to Showroom..

Its been a bit of a journey

My mountain studio

Originally it was going to be a separate building from the house

you can read about that here

However I quickly came to realise that dealing with others who don't share your vision

and a council that needs reports on every blade of grass before allowing any sort of building

is not a recipe for a successful experience...

I could have continued on that long road

it wasn't hopeless

however the opportunity came up

that allowed the use of a room we already had in the main house..

the inside is mostly all finished

and its now full of treasures waiting for purchase both in store and my on-line store

is open for business by appointment only

 

However the outside is still a work in progress

there is no cover over the door and the ground is just gravel

and an old rug outside..

and of course the big old washing line..

I love that old washing line, so we are moving it to another sunny part of the garden..

and finally a start has been made on a cover for that side of the house..

 

 

 

 At the stage where we are painting in an Antique White ready for the roof to go on..

Of course this rain over the weekend has made it very difficult so we were unable to paint all of it

You can only do what you can do when Mother nature is involved..

cant wait to start styling the courtyard garden

first things first though

have to do the paving..

 

Quite a lot of finishing touches to go

but its moving a long

I'm very happy for that...
