I have to tell you
I've been looking for a very very long time for the perfect front door
Some say the front door we have here at Greystanes is already perfect
Those people haven't tried the opening technique of pushing the bottom of the door with your left foot whilst turning the knob and trying to hold the leadlight in at the same time.
Why not shave the door if it sticks you say?
We have
Several times, it seems to me that this is an internal door that has been used externally so any slightest change in the weather makes the whole thing twist and turn in disgust.
And stick
The leadlight is about ready to explode outwards..
So the hunt has been on..
I decided not to go with an actual leadlight door this time
We are going to put a nicer leadlight around the sides and top instead and have a heavy solid antique door
Beautiful and thick like the ones I keep seeing in Melbourne and blogged about here
Very difficult to find those old cricket bat doors because they are so very heavy and hard wearing, unless the house is being demolished they stay put!
This is one of my favourites I drooled over in Brunswick..
So
I was having a chat over at my facebook page
and a lovely local lady reminded me of a salvage yard near by that I hadn't been to for so long I had completely forgotten about it...
To my absolute delight they had ONE cricket bat door
AND it was the right size!
That never happens because they are normally too too big
So here I was doing a happy dance in the middle of the salvage yard :)
This door, she's not perfect but crikey she's a heavy one, an original antique beauty, no reproduction here.
Of course our door knob will be on the opposite side so that will have to be filled and the hinges moved too.
Old paint will have to be stripped and I'm now on the lookout for an antique iron knocker for the top..
there's always something new to add to the "to do" list isn't there?!

Some beautiful things for sale over at my ebay store too..
by the way if you really love it
and it has no bids
email me at timewornstyle@ihug.com.au
and let me know you'd like to buy it
and I'll be happy to in most cases
never any harm in asking is there??
beautiful silver vase...
