My Vintage fabric collection - For Sale

I've been collecting Vintage Fabrics for a very long time...

I had always intended to turn them into cushions

quilts

lampshades

maybe even a dress..

but since the major car accident I was involved in last year

things have changed

I'm looking at things quite differently these days

and moving in a different direction

clearing the clutter if you will, in all aspects of my life...

So I've opened up a new on-line website

I've only just started and its only the tip of the iceberg..

I've been collecting for well over 10 years...

my Armoire is bursting at the seams...

Most are one off hard to find fabrics...

Selling fast too...

I'll be sad to see them go

Opportunity shop transformations....

Anyone who has been following this blog of mine

will understand that we are renovating on a budget...

And what this means 

is quite simply

things have to be bought for cheap...

For example

most things are a bit expensive brand new

even items for inside the home...

So when I saw this at an Op Shop (Thrift store)

All I saw was the dome..

and the price tag..

$5

I mean 

have you seen how much they charge for these things brand new??

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So...

all I had to do was prize off the rather "interesting" resin sculpture..

paint the wooden base an antique white...

and there it was

At the moment it holds an old picture...

and an antique paper weight..

tomorrow..

perhaps something else..

I love what you can do with recycled items...

Lazybone quilt alternative...

I don't know about you but when its school holidays

I seem to spend a lot more time at shopping centres than I would normally...

Down side is I spend more money than I should..

Upside is that even at a shopping centre I like to sniff out a treasure that doesn't cost much..

So I thought I might share this particular find with you..

Now don't think for a minute that I wouldn't prefer this gorgeous gathered up Rosette quilt by Lazybones Australia

 However I thought this lovely set wasnt a bad make do for the price..

Not exactly the same but a nice alternative if you dont have the $300 for the Lazybones quilt

This one was only $39 from Kmart Australia for a Queen Size doona cover and two pillowcases..

Its called Angelina...

So you see, you really can treasure hunt for a bargain anywhere!

Keeping motivated...

I've been in this treasure hunting business for more years than I can count..

I love working for myself

but the thing with working for yourself that is tricky is

1. doing taxes

2. staying motivated

The thing with 1. is that you can pay someone else to do it.

 

You can't pay someone to keep you motivated

actually yes you can

but I think its a bit silly

when you know what you should be doing

 

I wasn't feeling motivated this morning

Did my morning walk

checked my post office box

And there was my little bundle of motivation right there

Hooley dooley I do love this Aussie magazine..

Ok ok I am a bit biased because our home was featured in the February issue this year..

But crikey it sure does get my creative juices flowing..

The gardens

the homes

Just my cup of tea.

SO 

motivation therapy

Grab that pile of favourite magazines

and get moving

Me I'm making a list of what I'm going to do..

First things first, 

keeping the shop stock moving

come and buy it so I can put some more in

pretty please

Continuing on the Vintage trail...

Well I'm back on the trail again..

My shop is back open..

and I'm back in the saddle..

I've been carrying a bit too much luggage though

and this house and I 

well

we're feeling a bit heavy and tired..

 

So I'm off loading a large number of items 

from my own personal collections

like this lovely antique roses print in a frame below..

 

my beautiful pink Lloyd Loom blanket box that has sat at the end of our bed for a very long time..

I dont use them anymore..

Now I'm just using the one set...

with stuff actually in it..

 

That extra table I'm going to need for something..

Let's face it

I wont..

time to go to a new home..

Things are looking a little cluttered..

My little shop here at home is constantly changing..

I'm always bringing in new treasures

and watching happy buyers carry their carefully selected wonders out the doors..

We had quite a few customers this weekend

so thought I would share a few pictures of our little showroom here in the hills...

Decorating with memories..

Although I'm not getting around as much as I normally would

due to my non driving predicament I am in currently..

I'm still doing what treasure hunting I can

and because I'm home a lot more

I'm enjoying the moment...

in the little things

by adding some vintage French books to a grouping..

 

 

Playing with my three boxes of vintage scrabble pieces..

 

 

 

Enjoying the aesthetic beauty of old bound ink...

cursing that we had been stuck with the smelly red train again

Craving instead in teenage ignorance for the sleek new serpent with wizz bang automatic doors..

 

How I wish I could ride in that Red Rattler one more time...

 

 

 

Thats the beauty of old things

they evoke memories

your own and those of others

Remember when..

My grandmother had one of those..

I used to play with one just like that when I was little..

A small smile plays at the lips as these memories surface

precious

so precious

Well its been quite a few weeks now since this happened 

I was in hospital for a week..

and had two operations..

the first to remove peices of the road from inside my arm

and the next to bring it all back together

I'll be honest with you

It hasn't been easy

not at all.

 

My eye is still swollen after 7 weeks due to scaring

Arm in bandages for a week..

an upgrade to a splint..

 

and working with a compression stocking and silicon 

because my arms a bit of a weird shape now 

and has a fair bit of scaring..

I still cant bend it very much

so have a long road of rehab ahead of me..

Have to stay focused and keep stretching

or I'm going to be stuck like this..

 

My body needs to make new skin

and it will only do it 

if it is reminded by stretching

constantly..

 

This has been a very big learning curve on so many levels

and in many aspects of my life...

But I've had some great support

A huge thankyou to Victoria and Heather for getting my youngest to school each morning - so so appreciated, you have no idea, I am truly humbled by this help.

I'm not used to asking for help but how freely it is given

New treasures ~ mountain studio..

 

I do read about this all the time 

about bloggers who feel bad about not answering comments left 

or visiting other bloggies when they should

So I think we should just all agree

to make no apologies and accept that we all love receiving those glorious comments

the little packets of care at the end of our blog posts

that make you smile

and realise you are not typing stories about your everyday life into the void

that they are actually being jumped at 

and held 

then let go again

for the next person to gently read...

and that us who write these everyday threads of life and home

SO appreciate it 

that it brings such a smile to our home

that we dont need to apologise

or feel bad for not visiting..

because its a given

that we feel the love <3

It was a lovely surprise..

How could I possibly pick only five??

 

Have sold lots of furniture out of my showroom these last few weeks..

so have been doing a bit of rearranging

 We still havent finished the outside..

an old rug still sits at the entrance

but at least we have an undercover area now 

so rearranging is a little easier..

although not any tidier..

 however at least weather proof..

Before below..

brought in a lovely old Victorian kitchen table 

I had been keeping in storage outside..

as a permanent shop fitting..

love its pretty green legs

and who knows I will probably end up selling it eventually..

Still not finished as I found some more beautiful treasures this weekend too..

to find a place for in the showroom..

 

 

 

but that is half the fun really isnt it?

From shabby chic to neutrals...

One of the things that I love about my business

is I get to play stylist

with new things every week.

 

Some I like so much in their new spot I decide to hold onto for a while..

others I put in my ebay store quick smart..

I found a wonderful lot of treasures on the weekend, 

some that I would have shoved in my cupboard with much gusto in the days where I loved all things pink and rosey..

 

 

So when I was taking some photos of all these new found delights..

It got me to thinking how much my decor has changed over the years

Don't get me wrong 

I still do love pink and rosey china, linen, furniture..

but not on the grand scale that was..

only here and there

Which in all honesty 

for me

makes it more of feature

that jumps out and says "look at me"

 

To be honest

I think I am going through a bit of a backlash against my earlier frilly shabby chic phase

And again

having said that

I do love a ruffle and frill here and there

just 

not 

as

much..

Because some of our rooms are starting to head in this direction now..

I found this huge old antique basket

which calls to me more

than some pink and roses

for the moment..

and when I stood back and looked at this room..

it struck me just how pared back it is

and calming in a way..

a clashing of horns 

against my earlier hoarding days

I'm enjoying layers and textures 

overlapping and changing..

silver

linens

neutrals...

industrial accents

but don't think for a minute

that all of our house is going down this road..

after all

I still do have a cupboard full of this..

Decorating with Ladders..

Still loving a touch of the "outside" items inside..

To me it gives the quirky look I'm after

and can also be a very practical option too

For example, I'm really liking the look of a ladder or two around the home at the moment..

So when I found this beauty yesterday I couldn't resist..

Loved the old typeface

and little rubber feet..

 

and very practical for reaching these high ceilings and walls when required..

It really should be outside stored in a shed..

but I like it inside

at hand

where I can admire its sculptural qualities

and to be able to climb it when a light bulb needs changing..

 

I have another in the bathroom to hold some towels too..

Also brought some cut flowers into the home...

These Bell flowers seem to last a very long time

just keep freshening up the water and they keep their pure white beauty  for everyone to enjoy..
